ABERDEEN LEGENDS OF SQUASH PRESS RELEASE

SCOTTISH SQUASH STAR PETER NICOL TO RENEW RIVALRY WITH OLD FOE JONATHAN POWER IN ABERDEEN

Aberdeen Squash and Racquets Club - Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2011

Scottish squash star Peter Nicol will play international competitive squash in Aberdeen for the first time in 12 years when he competes at the Legends of Squash tour event at the Aberdeen Squash and Racquets Club which is being held over the weekend of Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2011.

Nicol, the former world No.1 and four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, will renew his famous rivalry with old foe Jonathan Power, the former world No.1 and 2002 Commonwealth Games champion from Canada, and the Inverurie-born 38-year-old will be aiming for revenge in the Granite City after he was beaten by Power in the final of the 1999 British Open which was held in Aberdeen.

Nicol and Power headline an impressive line-up of squash legends which also includes:
Anthony Ricketts (Australia) – The former world No.3 who won the British Open and Tournament of Champions events in 2005.  Ricketts also twice won the silver medal in the Men’s Doubles event at the Commonwealth Games.
Simon Parke (England) – The former world No.3 who beat Power in the final of the 1999 US Open.
Derek Ryan (Ireland) – The most capped squash player in the world who recently won his 200th cap for his country.
Tim Garner (England) – The former world No.26 from Sussex.

The event, sponsored by Aberdeen Squash and Racquets Club, Mr Chips and Rosehill Fish Bar, is part of the Legends of Squash tour which was launched by Nicol last year and provides an opportunity for players who have retired from the Professional Squash Association Tour to continue playing the game at a high level and to battle their old rivals on court again, as well as providing plenty of entertainment for the spectators.

Looking forward to playing on home soil again, Peter said: "It is really exciting first and foremost to get back on court and play with my rivals in front of my local crowd. I have had great experiences at Aberdeen Squash Racquets Club since moving back to the area and delighted that they and Mr Chips have committed to hosting Scotland's first Legends of Squash event. The squash during these events is highly competitive but with an element of entertainment that does not exist on the Pro Tour. From coaching juniors and amateurs throughout the day, to the matches themselves, and dinner with the Legends at the Club in the evening, Aberdeen is set to be a fantastic event".

“Being around the guys that I spent ten to 15 years of my life travelling around the world with and competing against, to see them again, hang out with them and play squash with them and be involved with this sort of event is a special occasion.”

Tickets are on sale now from only £15 and can be booked via e-mail on aberdeen@legendsofsquash.com.  Package tickets are also available for the whole weekend which includes dinner, drinks and a squash clinic with the legends.  More information on tickets can be found atwww.legendsofsquash.com.
