The 6th Annual World of Squash Golf Day once again took place over the challenging Westerham Golf Course in Kent earlier this month. Eventis Sports Marketing brought together golfers from all walks of squash, including players, sponsors, administrators, media and fans of the sport.

The tight tree-lined course was in stunning condition and the greens were receptive after some weekend! Fortunately, the rain stayed away despite it remaining overcast for much of the day. As always preparation was varied ranging from hitting plenty of balls on the range, fine tuning the putting stroke to a pint of beer and a bacon roll before hitting the 1st & 10th tees!

After dinner was served the prizes were awarded with the winning team coming from court company Courtcare ((88 points) who fielded Ian Brightwell, Richard Ingle, Jim Lord & World 12 Daryl Selby. However, they only pipped PCL on Back 9 count-back, to leave Pete Cullen & his merry men in the bridesmaid spot for the second year running. Although not all would agree the course was playing slightly easier than last year when only one player managed to play to handicap. This year there were five, and winner Simon Down of Integrity posted an impressive 42 points, as well as an impressive hat that some thought should have been a Stetson! John Broadfoot of SOS Kit Aid was his nearest challenger with 39 points.

Nearest the Pin was won by Courtcare’s Richard Ingle, PSA’s Alex Rice was closest in two and ex-footballer now of Courtcare Ian Brightwell kept his drive straightest!! Rory Pennell in only his 8th round ever unleashed a monster to win the men’s longest drive, while Olympic hockey medallist Chloe Rogers smashed the ball down 18 to win the women’s longest drive by country mile and round off the best gross round of the day at 1 over Par.

Sixteen year-old Sports Aid funded golfer Inci Mehmet also impressed everyone with her ball striking and general demeanour. The post dinner auction raised nearly £1,700 which will be ring-fenced by Sports Aid for young squash players in need of funding.
